Popping The Cherry
28th July, 2025
Welcome back Food Junglers. Earnings season is underway again, Pepsi is taking notice of an underlying health trend, and Hershey’s is defending child labour allegations. Let’s dig in.
THE BREAKDOWN…
Domino’s Earnings: Domino's Pizza posted higher revenue in the second quarter, led by same-store sales growth in the U.S., where it recently rolled out stuffed-crust pizza.
Chipotle Earnings: Chipotle reported a same-store sales decline of 4% for its most recent quarter, the largest quarterly drop since COVID-19. Declining consumer confidence, plus tough comparisons to strong sales last year, were the biggest reasons.
Coke Earnings: The Coca-Cola Company's quarterly estimates beat expectations, boosted by higher prices even as volumes dropped in key markets, while the company said it would introduce a Coke product made with cane sugar in the United States.
Pepsi’s Prebiotics: PepsiCo has launched Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, months after their Poppi acquisition, a significant innovation in the cola category that combines traditional flavours with functional benefits.
Weather Shocks: Extreme weather events are driving short-term surges in food prices around the world, according to a new report by the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre. Staple foods — including potatoes, rice, onions, lettuce and fruit — are being hit hardest.
Child Labour: A US federal appeals court rejected a proposed class action by eight Malian citizens who sought to hold The Hershey Company and five other companies liable for child labour on Ivory Coast cocoa farms.
Nestlé Price Hikes: Swiss food giant Nestlé said Thursday that prices for its Kit Kat barsand Nespresso coffee pods could rise further in the second half of this year, as U.S. tariffs risk exacerbating existing commodity price pressures.
