Corporate Woes
21st July, 2025
Welcome back Food Junglers. After taking a little holiday, I now feel rejuvenated and ready to get back in the swing of things! From what I’ve been reading, it seems as though I’ve missed quite a bit, from corporate break-ups to chaos in the Middle East. Let’s dig in.
THE BREAKDOWN…
Kraft Heinz: According to reports from major media outlets, Kraft Heinz Company is actively considering a significant restructuring that would involve spinning off a substantial portion of its grocery business, which includes several iconic Kraft products.
Starbucks WFH: Starbucks is requiring its corporate workers to come in the office a minimum of four days a week, up from three, as the coffee chain pushes ahead on its turnaround plan. Starbucks is also offering a one-time voluntary exit program with a cash payment for employees who don’t want to comply with the new requirements.
Dyes in Ice Cream: About 40 makers of ice cream and frozen dairy desserts in the US said they would remove seven petroleum-based dyes from their products by 2028.
Cereal Acquisition: The Ferrero Group has officially announced its acquisition of WK Kellogg Co, a move aimed at expanding its portfolio and enhancing its presence in the North American market, for approximately $3.1 billion.
Gaza Aid: At least 20 Palestinians were killed on Wednesday at an aid distribution site run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, in what the U.S.-backed group said was a crowd surge instigated by armed agitators.
PepsiCo Earnings: PepsiCo said its business remained resilient during the recent quarter, logging higher revenue despite a small drop in volumes.
Changing Formula: US President Donald Trump says that The Coca-Cola Company has agreed to replace high-fructose corn syrupwith real cane sugar in its soda beverages sold in the country.
Nestle Partnership: Nestlé announced environmental restoration projects in partnership with reforestation startup re.green and chocolatier Barry Callebaut in Brazil, seeking to plant millions of trees in areas where it sources key ingredients.
Texas Investigation: Texas' attorney general said he has begun investigating Mars, which makes M&M's and Skittles candies, for its alleged refusal to remove synthetic food dyes from its products.
Lettuce Shortage: Some McDonald’s locations have run short of lettuce and other toppings after the chain this month brought back the fried chicken strips rolled in tortillas.
